Meditation for the Week

"We must first ponder the vastness of the divine glory and at the same time the slenderness of our understanding. Far from certain is it that our keenness could climb so high as to apprehend God. Therefore all thinking about God, apart from Christ, is a bottomless abyss which utterly swallows up all our senses....Hence it is clear that we cannot trust in God save through Christ. In Christ God so to speak makes himself little, in order to lower himself to our capacity; and Christ alone calms our consciences that they may dare intimately approach God."

- John Calvin, quoted in Preaching Christ from the Old Testament by Sidney Greidanus, p. 141-142.

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas!

God became man. What a mind-boggling truth.

Give God the glory for humbling Himself, coming as a babe and a servant to live a sinless life and die upon the cross as the Lamb of God slain for the sins of the world.

Only by faith in the life, death, and resurrection of the Lord Jesus, the God-Man, can one be rescued from his sin.

I don't know who the group is singing below, but watch this video to hear an amazing Christmas song that proclaims who the babe was in Bethlehem over 2,000 years ago.

On Lock Down

I am in lock down mode for the next two weeks as I work on D.Min assignments. I'll "come out" for Christmas and play with the kids. So my posting will probably drastically slow down unless I need a brain break.

Church Discipline Under Attack

A fellow seminary grad of mine is pastor of the Grace Community Church in Jacksonville, Florida. The church is now under attack for exercising church discipline on one of its members. It was on FoxNews's main page of their website this morning (click here), and posted on DrudgeReport yesterday here.

The articles are designed to attack the church rather than the sin in which the member is living in. The titles of their articles are FoxNews - "Church Threatens to 'Out' Sins," and on Drudge - "Woman Says Church Threatening to Make Sins Public." FoxNews even provides a PDF of the church's letter to the lady notifying her of its decision. These are typical depictions of how pagans view God's commandments. They mock them.

The ironic thing is that the lady has already "outed" herself. She had made it public and obviously feels no shame. According to the one article she has sought to withdraw her membership, but many churches have clauses in their by-laws that say if you are in the process of church discipline you cannot withdraw your membership. And you must agree with that when you become a member of the church.

So it will be interesting to see what happens here. We should certainly pray for wisdom for the church, and for the lady to repent.

Truth Quote of the Week

"Men cannot see truth, because they love falsehood. The gospel is not seen, because it is too pure for their loose lives and lewd thoughts."

Glamorizing Death

There has been great controversy as to whether a TV station in Britain should've aired the assisted suicide of a British citizen in Switzerland. The man had some sort of a neurotic illness and decided it was time to end his life before his condition worsened. So he flew to Switzerland with his wife where he flipped off his ventilator and drank some sort of poison serum with his wife holding his hand.

I clicked on a video from Sky News that was about a 2 minute documentary of it. I left a short message on the comments below and my email box started getting assaulted by people cussing me out. The language was so terrible that I can't even quote something from one of the messages. People telling me to shove my #*$%@ God down my throat and etc.

One man did say that this man chose an honorable death. How to evaluate what is an honorable death? Is dying by natural causes dishonorable? The twisted view of humanity when separated from the Creator is very numbing.

The only death that was ever honorable was the death that Jesus died. However, these same people that send these messages curse Him and mock His name. The Bible says that it is appointed unto man once to die, and after that judgment (Heb. 9:27). People who consider suicide should ponder that truth, and seek the Lord while He may be found (Is. 55:6). Only in Christ can we ever escape the pain and suffering that this life promises.

Jesus is the way, the truth and the life.

Czech Republic Among the Most Corrupt

The Prague Daily Monitor today reported:

Czech Republic among most corrupt countries
A Transparency International poll of business managers in 26 countries around the world found ČR is perceived as having the highest degree of corruption among political parties and that the government’s fight against corruption is seen as inefficient. The Czech Republic ranked 24th on a scale of 26 countries, ahead of Nigeria and Mexico.
This shouldn't come as a big surprise. When a majority of the country professes to be atheist, then you shouldn't expect anything better than being one of the most corrupt. As atheists many just throw their God-given moral compass out the window and anything goes. The sad part is that there is no vast difference between the general population of atheists and those who profess to know Christ. May a new Jan Hus (John Huss) arise and preach the Word!

The Ultimate Christmas Gift?

My wife would like a treadmill for Christmas, and I could actually use some exercise myself to get the blood pumping. In my search for a low price treadmill I came across this one in the picture. It is a $1,300 treadmill for your pet.

You tell me. Is this a Christmas gift for losers or the ultimate Christmas gift?

Truth Quote of the Week

Jan Hus (John Huss), in his pursuit of truth made the following statement:

"From the earliest time of my studies I have set up for myself the rule that whenever I discern a sounder opinion in any matter whatsoever, I gladly and humbly abandon the earlier one. For I know that those things I have learned are but the least in comparison with what I do not know."

Jan Hus in De Trinitate
