Trusting God in Difficult Times

My posting has slowed as of late. I just experienced the most stressful week I've had for a couple years now. But I take great comfort in Psalm 115, which I'll preach this Sunday. In this psalm the psalmist shows that God is superior above all gods. Though the nations may say "Where is their God?" We can answer with verse 3: "But our God is in the heavens; He does whatever He pleases."

There is no need to despair. This verse is a great comfort to me personally. Though there's nothing we can do to change our circumstances, we can trust Him and call upon Him in prayer knowing that God does whatever He pleases. The contrast in this psalm is with the gods of the nations...idols. Unlike them, our God can hear, and see, and speak, and act. We just need to trust Him and watch Him do great and mighty things which we know not.

Whether you are stressed because of spiritual attacks, family problems, problems at work, stressed over the political situation, discouraged by things at church, or whatever; in the end we can take comfort in the fact that God does whatever He pleases. His plan is far greater than ours and far more perfect. He will do that which is right. We just need to trust Him and trust that He will reward the righteous as He has promised.

Rest in His sovereignty. Trust Him to do only that which is good. Take comfort in the victory that comes only in Him. He is working behind the scenes where we cannot see.
